The LSU Tigers will enter the 2024 season with four of the top players in college football according to CBS.
About four months remain until the start of the college football season, and rosters for 2024 are essentially finalized, with the transfer site closing soon. Four LSU Tigers were included in CBS Sports’ ranking of the top 100 players for the 2024 campaign. While some athletes were undoubtedly left off of LSU’s roster, very few teams were able to equal LSU’s feat of having four players ranked in the top 100.
Here, Will Campbell, ranked sixth, is the nation’s best offensive lineman and the most crucial LSU Tiger. In 491 pass-blocking snaps in 2023, Campbell allowed no sacks and achieved an 84.9 PFF run blocking grade, demonstrating his dominance. In his 1,687 pass-blocking snaps during his career, Campbell has only allowed two sacks—a rather impressive stat.
Pass protection will be crucial as the LSU Tigers switch from Jayden Daniels to Garrett Nussmeier. While Nussmeier gets his feet wet as a starter for the first time, Campbell will have to guard his blindside. Strong tackle Will Campbell is the foundation of the LSU offensive line, which is expected to start as the early favorite for the Joe Moore Award.
A year from now, in the NFL Draft of 2025, Will Campbell will have a chance to be the first player taken in the draft who isn’t a quarterback, and he may even end up as the first overall pick. The LSU Tigers will need Campbell and the offensive line to keep Garrett Nussmeier clean if they want their offense to be as potent as it was in 2023.
