Longhorns’ Lefty Ace Continues Battle for No. 1 in Texas…
Czech also acknowledges that her father helped her learn the game of softball during her formative years.
“My dad played baseball mostly and he was pretty good when he was younger, so I had a good teacher growing up,” Czech said.
After transferring from North Carolina State, Czech found herself on the Forty Acres in 2022, proving that her perseverance and hard work had eventually paid off. The Downers Grove, Illinois native advanced to the first round of the regional tournament and demonstrated that he was a vital member of the 2022 Longhorns.
Czech was selected by head coach Mike White to start the opening game against Weber State. With a perfect game shutout, Czech dominated the contest. Throughout the Longhorns’ postseason run, which took them all the way to the National Championship game at the Oklahoma City Women’s College World Series in 2022, her passion on the mound persisted.
“It kind of comes out on the field as passion and energy whenever I get to show how much I love the sport,” Czech added.
Czech has often demonstrated that she performs well under pressure and that there is no stage too big for her to compete on.
“Practicing like you play is the best way to get ready for pressure,” Czech said. “You can transform pressure into excitement and energy by adopting the correct perspective.”
Czech’s postseason accomplishments were not overlooked. The fact that Czech was selected for the 2022 WCWS All-Tournament Team is among her most noteworthy career achievements.
The senior left-handed pitcher extended her record of achievements on April 7 when she emerged victorious over Oklahoma, which was ranked first at the time. Czech says that defeating Oklahoma was a team effort and gives respect to her teammates. Czech has pitched 46.1 innings in 2024 and has a 7-3 record, 1.66 ERA, and 19 strikeouts in total.
“I couldn’t have done that without my teammates,” Czech said. “My teammates were absolutely amazing in that game, and they helped me a lot.”
Czech has assumed a leadership role as a senior who has participated in national championship competition while wearing a Longhorns uniform.
“Just making sure to uphold the team standards,” Czech said. “All of the seniors have been doing a good job at that and just being good helpful leaders.”
Czech understands the importance and significance of being a Texas Longhorn. “There’s a legacy here (at Texas),” Czech said. “It means a lot and a lot of eyes are on you so that’s fun and exciting.”
Throughout her tenure as a Longhorn, Czech has left behind her own special legacy. Upon throwing her last pitch as a Longhorn in 2024, the senior wants her legacy to be that of a person who always gave it her all on the field.
Czech remarked, “I want to be remembered for the energy and passion I bring to the game.”
