Karter Knox’s Big Switch: Five-Star Prospect Shakes Up College Basketball with Arkansas Commitment

Five-star recruit Karter Knox, who was pledged to Kentucky before decommitting, has committed to John Calipari at Arkansas. Knox made the announcement to several sites on Monday. Knox is a member of the 2024 class.

The 6-foot-5 wing Knox first committed to Kentucky in March, but he went back to recruiting after Calipari took a job as Arkansas’s coach earlier this month.

Knox, who is regarded as one of the top shot creators in the 2024 recruiting class, averaged 23.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in the Overtime Elite League during the 2023–2024 season.

Prior to committing to Kentucky, Knox was debating between Louisville, South Florida, and spending one more year at OTE. Knox’s brother Kevin was recruited and mentored by former Kentucky coach Kenny Payne, who was the Cardinals’ main draw at the time. Payne moved from Lexington to the NBA, where he again served as an assistant coach for the New York Knicks with Kevin Knox. Payne became an associate head coach at Arkansas recently, joining Calipari’s staff.
