Breaking Records: Zach Edey Joins Elite Company as Only the Second Two-Time Wooden Award Winner
Zach Edey of Purdue University won the John R. Wooden Award twice, the second time around, and was named the nation’s top men’s college basketball player on Wednesday.
The 7-foot-4 center now plays for Ralph Sampson of Virginia, the 1982 and 1983 champion.
In addition to setting school records for career points and rebounds, Edey led the country in scoring. The Boilermakers were led by the Canadian to the national championship game, but they were defeated by UConn.
On Tuesday, Caitlin Clark of Iowa took home the women’s Wooden Award.
At the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Friday, Edey and Clark will receive their trophies along with Legends of Coaching recipient John Calipari.
A nationwide panel of voters, including former champions and those who cover the sport, conducted voting from March 18–25.
