Spartan Exit: A.J. Hoggard Leaves Michigan State, Enters Transfer Portal.

Another splash on the transfer portal occurred on Friday afternoon, this time from a former Michigan State star.

A.J. Hoggard, a two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention honoree, is departing Tom Izzo’s squad after four seasons to play for a different team in his fifth year of college basketball.

Last week, Izzo stated that Hoggard”could go back to college, but it wouldn’t be with the Spartans.”

Over the previous two years at MSU, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound point guard started 67 games and averaged 11.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game.

After Michigan State’s season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, below expectations, it appeared as though Hoggard’s time as a Spartan was done. In fact, he took part in the Portsmouth Invitational, a college senior basketball tournament where aspiring pros compete while getting assessed.

Aside from that, as the Portsmouth tournament is meant for players who are currently in the game, players who participate but return to college typically face a three-game suspension at the start of the next season..That being said, something felt off following Hoggard’s comments to the media in the previous year regarding being questioned. It would be best for everyone involved to move in this case.

Tre Holloman, Jaden Akins, and Jeremy Fears will be back on the perimeter for Michigan State next season. Frankie Fidler, an Omaha transfer who committed to Tom Izzo and the Spartans earlier this week, will also be joining the squad.
