Her season ERA currently sits at a very respectable 1.66. “Citlaly (Gutierrez) pitched very well and got stronger as the game went on,”stated Mike White, the head coach.

The Longhorns’ offensive output was slow to start, but as soon as the bats warmed up, the fire went out.

Texas scored six runs in the following inning after only managing one run at the top of the fourth.

As sophomore outfielder Ashton Maloney and junior third baseman Mia Scott circled the bases, sophomore infielder Viviana Martinez opened the scoring with a double to right center field for two runs. Then, with Martinez now on third, Reese Atwood, a sophomore designated hitter, singled up the middle to score one run.

And then junior first baseman Katie Cimusz went up to the plate with freshman catcher Katie Stewart on first and freshman pinch runner Adayah Wallace on third. Texas’s bat was on fire as Cimusz blasted a single to deep left field, scoring three and putting the Longhorn advantage up to seven.

“Honestly, it just feels so great (when I’m able to have those good at bats when my number is called),” Cimusz said. “I put in the hard work during practice and pre-game, so seeing everything just come together feels really good.”

Cimusz went 2-3 with five RBIs in two games this weekend, including two home runs. Although the junior isn’t expected to start every game, it’s obvious that she’s more than prepared when Coach White calls her name.

In short, Texas is a team worthy of its title.

The Longhorns haven’t lost since the Red River Rivalry’s first game sixteen days ago. This includes a series sweep of No. 24/RV Baylor, two games versus then-No. 1 Oklahoma, a victory over No. 25/22 Texas State, and now a decisive victory over Kansas.

Since its 11-0 start to the season, Texas has not had a winning streak as long as its current nine games.

Apart from the Longhorns, every team in the top 10 has dropped at least one game in those 16 days. Right now, Texas is the only team able to remain untouchable atop the softball mountain, demonstrating its superiority in the face of opposition.

Texas, who presently has a 38–6 record, will welcome Nicholls back to the 40 acres on April 25.
