A Night of Laughs and Legends: Caitlin Clark’s Hilarious ‘SNL’ Cameo Delights Fans
Unexpectedly, Caitlin Clark appeared on”Saturday Night Live” during the show’s “Weekend Update” segment.
The Iowa standout is in New York for the 2024 WNBA Draft on Monday, when the Indiana Fever are predicted to select her with the first overall choice.
When presenter Michael Che joked about Iowa retiring her jersey, the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer appeared. Che continued reading jokes that Clark said she created, making fun of the comedian, and this gave Clark the last laugh.
The native of Iowa then gave a moving speech on her future in basketball and thanked several of the legendary players who came before her.
“I’m sure it will be a big first step for me, but it’s just one step for the WNBA thanks to all the great players like Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Cynthia Cooper, the great Dawn Staley, and my basketball hero, Maya Moore,” Clark said. “These are the women that kicked down the door so I could walk inside. So, I want to thank them tonight for laying the foundation.”
At the conclusion of the performance, Clark returned to the stage, bringing with her Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall, and Jada Gyamfi, her old Hawkeyes colleagues.
Since her team’s defeat to South Carolina in the national championship game in Cleveland, Clark has had a busy week. After attending a rally at the Iowa arena to honor the team, she traveled to Los Angeles to accept the John R. Wooden Award. Currently, she is in New York.
