A True Champion: Caitlin Clark Earns Second Wooden Award, Solidifying Her Place in Women’s College Basketball History
On Tuesday, Caitlin Clark of Iowa was named the nation’s best women’s college basketball player and took home the John R. Wooden Award for the second year in a row.
The remaining finalists are freshman Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame, JuJu Watkins of Southern California, Cameron Brink of Stanford, and Paige Bueckers of UConn. Each of the five women has received an invitation to travel to Los Angeles for Friday’s award ceremony.
The Hawkeyes fell to South Carolina in the NCAA championship game, which they had made for the second time in a row under Clark’s leadership. She became the first player to rank first in both categories for two years in a row, leading the country in both scoring (31.6 points per game) and assists (8.9 per game).
In her final season at Iowa, Clark broke the record for both men’s and women’s Division I scoring.
